In 1 Samuel 18:1-3 we read of the great friendship between Jonathan and David.  The scripture says that the soul of Jonathan was knit (bound together) with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved (love as friends and family) him as his own soul” (vs 1). We know that this friendship extended not only for the rest of their lives but also to the benefit of Jonathan’s son (2 Sam 9:7). Yes, there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother (Prov. 18:24).

This type of friendship is hard to find in the world but is readily available in the Church.  As members of the Church we are “one in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:28) and “fitly joined together” (Eph. 4:16).  We are described as those of “like precious faith” (2 Peter 1:1) and are to love one another “with a pure heart fervently” (1 Peter 1:22).  Our love leads us to avoid placing a stumbling block in our brother’s way (Rom 14:13) and to especially do that which is good unto the “household of faith” (Ga; 6:10). We pray for one another (James 5:16).

May we always remember that as Christians we are never alone or without the strength, support and prayers of our brethren?  Yes, we have close friends.  What a blessing!
