In Romans 10:8 the scripture says” for if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved”. In this passage we learn that belief is necessary for salvation. But this is not just some simple form of mental ascent or acknowledgement, but rather a moral conviction of a religious truth.
This conviction is demonstrated by the words of Jesus in John 8:31 where he said to the Jews who believed, “continue in my word and then are ye my disciples indeed (truly or surely)”. The idea is further presented in Hebrews 11:6 where it is said “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek (search out, crave, demand) Him.”
Philippians 1:21 sums this idea up nicely; “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain”. Literally, to be living is Christ (continuous), for there is no beneficial life apart from Him.
