On the day of His resurrection Jesus appeared to His assembled disciples showing them His hands and His side (John 20:20). Thomas, one of the twelve was not present. Thomas later declared that unless he saw and touched the hands and side of Jesus he would not believe (vs 25). Eight days later Jesus appeared again to His apostles and permitted Thomas to do the same saying, “Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless but believing” (vs 27). Upon doing so Thomas said unto Jesus, “My Lord and my God” (vs 28). This confession was not a new idea for it had been prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 and confirmed in Matthew 1:23 that one of the names of Jesus would be Emmanuel meaning “God with us”.
Jesus is also identified as God in John 1:1 and 1:14 where the Word was God and became flesh. This is also confirmed in Hebrews 1:8 when speaking of Jesus, the scripture says “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever”….
Jesus Christ is Lord (Acts 2:36) and He is God! There is salvation in no other (Acts 4:12). Let’s trust and serve Him.
