In 1 John 1:3 we have a very clear description of the tie that binds us together as Christians; “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, with His Son Jesus Christ”. This is a beautiful statement reminding us of the early church who continued steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine and in fellowship (Acts 2:42).
We live in a world where our heart purposed offering becomes a challenge fundraiser and Christian fellowship is interpreted as a social gathering or pie fling. The true meaning of fellowship is diminished or cheapened in this way. Fellowship begins with the word which creates faith and a call to obedience and the Christian walk (1 John 1:3, 6-7). In that walk we share a common concern, common support and goals with our brethren. We care for one another and love one another as we worship and work together in the kingdom of Christ.
Our fellowship with one another is as durable as our fellowship with the Father. As faithful Christians we have that fellowship at all times. It never ends, for we are family!
