Jesus had been abused, crucified and His body placed in a new tomb (Matt 27:60). There would be no doubt that Jesus was the one who had risen and that He had not risen because his body touched the bones of one of Gods prophets (2 Kings 13:21). Jesus was the Christ! The one in whom over 350 Old Testament prophesies were fulfilled.
Early on the first day of the week, following His crucifixion, women who were disciples of Jesus came to His sepulcher. An Angel spoke to the women saying “Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified”. He is not here: for He is risen as He said….” (Matt 28:5-6). Following this conversation and for the next 40 days Jesus would appear to people several times; Mary Magdalene (Mark 16:9; John 20:8-14), Women returning from the tomb (Matt. 28-9-10), Peter alone (Luke 24:34), Two disciples going to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-31), Apostles except Thomas (John 20:19-25), Apostles including Thomas (John 20:26-29, Seven disciples fishing (John 21:1-14), Eleven disciples on a mountain (Matt. 28:16-20), 500 brethren at once (1 Cor. 15:6), James only (1 Cor 15:7), and all of the apostles at the ascension (Luke 24:50-51, Acts 1:6-12). There can be no doubt that Jesus lives for “He showed himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs (criterion of certainty)” (Acts 1:3).
We will see Jesus when he returns (Acts 1:11, Rev 1:7, 1Thes 4:16-17). Will we be prepared (2 Thess. 1:7-8)? That is certainly our hope.
