In Psalm 119:62 the scripture says: “At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgements”.

In the verses leading up to our text, we read of the appreciation, respect and reverence that David has for God and His word. He records how he is comforted by God’s judgments (vs 52), that His statutes have been “songs in my house” (vs 54) and that he has remembered the name of the Lord in the night (vs 55). He expresses his commitment to “keep Thy words” (vs 57), and says that he thought on his ways and turned his feet to God’s testimonies (vs 59).

A careful consideration of the word of God, how He has blessed us in the past (Gen 50:20), comforted us in our present condition (2 Cor. 1:3) and extended to us great and precious promises (2 Peter 1:4) should cause us to “rise up at midnight and give thanks”.  The scripture says “Pray without ceasing.  In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thes. 5:17-18).

Are we thankful and prayerful people? Are we thankful for the close relationship that we have with God (Acts 17:27)?  We should be.
