Sometimes we may think or hear others say that Jesus has made it difficult to follow Him.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  In fact the opposite is true.  Jesus has done everything possible to make it easy to follow Him (Matt. 11:30). Through the Scripture we are offered the plain message of salvation, shown the steps of obedience in order to lay hold of our inheritance, and promised that the Lord is our helper in time of need (Heb. 13: 5-6). So why is it so hard at times to follow Jesus?  To answer this question let’s look at several verses which demonstrate how our service is hindered.

  • Binding that which is not bound (Acts 15:1-21).
  • Our avoidance of the light because our wickedness is exposed (John 3:20).
  • Cares of the world, deceitfulness of riches and the lust for other things (Mark 4:15).
  • Faulty or unqualified leadership who have forgotten their duty to the flock (Acts 20: 28-30).
  • Unfaithful and imprecise teaching (2 Tim. 4:3; 1 Tim. 6:1-5; 2 Peter 2:3).
  • Perils in this life which include emotional, physical, financial, those of the world and false brethren (2 Cor. 11:24-27).
  • Affliction and persecution for the word’s sake (Mark 4:17).

We will experience most if not all these hindrances during our Christian walk.   Our job is to remain faithful. Following Christ is a life of action.  We must flee, follow, and fight (1 Tim. 6:11-12).
