At the second coming “the Lord Himself (not a representative) shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thess. 4:16-18).  Yes brethren all who are in the grave shall come forth (John 5:28-29).  No one will be left behind.  There will be no period of tribulation or future earthly activities.  The history of the earth will cease and everything will be destroyed (2 Pet. 3:10-11).  The race will be complete (Heb. 12:1). The faithful will ever be (keep on living) with the Lord.

In that day death will be swallowed up in victory (1 Cor. 15:52-55) and our faith will become sight (2 Cor. 5:7). All of our hardships, temptations, infirmities, past mistakes and the earthly consequences of our sin will be over.  We will be ready to receive our reward (2 Tim. 4:7-8).

The faithful are thankful for this event. Non-believers and the unfaithful are not. Knowing these things let us “give diligence to make our calling and election sure “(2 Pet. 1:10).
