Faithful Christians have a positive impact on the world. Families, communities, cities and the world are made better by the influence of Christ. We defend the weak, support the poor, help the down trodden and offer the way of salvation. Even the vilest living among us and certainly unbelievers benefit from the influence of Christ. Without the influence of Christ, the world would be a miserable place. Knowing this we as Christians should take some satisfaction in our everyday walk. We are making a difference.
This impact is described in Matthew 5:13-16, which speaks of us as salt and light. Salt is a preservative and light is that which dissipates darkness. The scripture says, “Ye are the light of the world, a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” (vs 14). Why do we have that influence? We have it because our Christianity is not some abstract concept but is rather who we are; a way of life. And that influence does not retreat for it is light that extinguishes darkness and not the other way around.
Take comfort and some satisfaction brethren in knowing that you are making the world a better place. Do not be discouraged or fall into retreat. We belong to Christ! We have nothing to prove and nothing to lose. We are simply Christian (Gal. 2:20).
