In Acts chapter 2 the Apostles preached to those who had just crucified Jesus.  Upon conviction of their sin, they asked the Apostles what they must do (vs 37).  Peter’s response is recorded requiring repentance and baptism for the remission of sins (vs 38).  The scripture then says that with many other words he exhorted them saying that they should save themselves from the untoward (crooked or perverse) generation (vs 40).  In verse 41 we read that they who gladly received (take fully, with pleasure) the word were baptized. These brethren had the right attitude, received the word and responded.

How do we receive the word?  Do we receive the word fully and with pleasure or do we consider the word as rather mundane?  The test that we might apply in order to learn the answer to this question is whether or not we obey.  In Acts 2 those who received the word gladly obeyed.

The scripture is not the word of men to be received as common but rather “the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you who believe” (1 Thess. 2:13).  Do we receive the word gladly and happy to comply?  Do we consider that this is God speaking to us?  We should.
