In Philippians chapter 1 we find the Apostle Paul imprisoned (vs 7).  He told the brethren at that time that he held them in his heart both in his bonds and in the confirmation of the gospel. He said in verse 12 that the things which had happened to him had benefitted the furtherance of the gospel and that his imprisonment was known in all the palace and other places (vs 13).  The gospel was being preached for both sincere and insincere reasons, but none the less being preached (vs 14-18).  Paul then describes a situation that we may all find ourselves in from time to time.

If the gospel was being made known and preached due to Paul’s imprisonment, how should they view his salvation (deliverance or safety)?  How were these brethren to pray?  The answer lies in the statement “through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ” (vs19).

When we find ourselves in a situation where we do not know the best spiritual direction, we need to trust that the Spirit, who knows our spirit, will help us.  He will lead us by the scripture (Rom 8:14, Eph. 6:17).  He will make intercession when we do not know how to “pray as we ought” (Rom 8:26).

Prayer is a powerful blessing!  As Christians we are never alone!
