In Acts 22:10-16 we find the account of Saul’s conversion, beginning on the road to Damascus.   After being exposed to a great light which blinded him and hearing a voice from heaven Saul asked, “What shall I do Lord?” (vs 10). He was told to go into Damascus and there he would be told what to do.   While in Damascus Ananias came, Saul’s sight was restored (vs 13), his mission was explained (vs 14-15) and he was prompted to action with the words “And now why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (vs 16).

The word translated tarriest means “to be about to”; in essence putting off what we intend to do. How often today is there some service or obedience to God that we intend to undertake but we tarry.  From the account in Acts 9:3-20 we know that Saul did not delay his obedience but was baptized (vs 18).

Like Saul, may each one of us act upon our godly intentions without delay.  As the inspired Psalmist said in Psalms 119:59-60 “I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.  I made haste and delayed not to keep thy commandments”.
