In John chapter 6, Jesus miraculously fed 5000 men with loaves and fishes.  Later, some of these people approached Him and Jesus said that they followed Him because they had eaten the loaves and were filled.  He then instructed them to “labor not for the meat (food) which perisheth but for the meat which endureth unto everlasting life (vs. 27). After some discussion contrasting the manna of the wilderness with true life-giving bread that came down from heaven Jesus said, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” (vs. 35). This promise is similar to Matthew 5:6 “blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.”  Both of these passages point to the establishment of the church and the salvation found therein (Eph. 5:23).

What a blessing it is to be in Christ, the true and life giving bread.  How fortunate we are that someone took the time to teach us and help us find the way.  May we ever be faithful and thankful for the abundant blessings that we receive in Jesus.
