In Revelation 1:5 the Scripture says that Jesus, “loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.” In Romans 5:8 we are told that God showed His love for us, “in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Often this message of love and forgiveness is viewed in a passive way whereby we are simply a recipient of this blessing without a responsibility for action. The Scripture denies this position.
In order for us to have our sins washed away we must be active. Romans 6: 1-18 reveals that we are made free from sin when we obey the doctrine of Christ from the heart. In Acts 22:16 we are told that baptism washes away our sins. 1 John 1:7 indicates that we must live our lives walking in the light in order to receive the continuous cleansing of our sin. Acts 8:22 says that a repentant and prayerful life is a part of this walk.
How then may we remain passive and expect our sins to be washed away? How may we expect to remain inactive or willfully immature and be forgiven? Let’s take action today!
