Psalms 16 includes a message of dependence, trust, obedience and hope.  This scripture provides much comfort and joy to the faithful Christian.  Verses 8-11 are prophetic of the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Christ (Acts 2:25-36).  This hope also applies to us for we too shall be resurrected (John 5:28-29) and caught up to live in heaven with God for eternity (1 Thess. 4:17; John 14:1-3).  Jesus Christ is the first fruits and in Him shall all be made alive (1 Cor. 15: 20-24).

As faithful Christians we rest in the hope (anticipated pleasure; confidence) of our calling (Eph. 4:4).  We are on the path of life (John 10:10) and anticipate the fullness (filled with the satisfaction) of joy (exceeding glee gladness); pleasures (sweet delight) for evermore (continual and perpetual to the most distant point) as identified by Psalms 16

In this life we will experience many sorrows, disappointments, emotional and physical pain, sickness and loneliness. Some of these challenges will be of our own making while others will be the result of time and chance (Ecc. 9:11).  These words from God certainly help to encourage and comfort us. We will reap if we faint not (Gal. 6:9).
