In Ephesians 4:1, Christians are instructed to walk (regulate one’s life or conduct) worthy of our vocation (calling as to a feast) wherewith we were called (invitation to embrace the salvation of God). The inspired Apostle then tells us the characteristics of such a walk (vs. 2). These are in lowliness (humble opinion of oneself) and meekness (gentleness, mildness) with longsuffering (patient endurance) forbearing (hold up or put up with) one another in love (good will, benevolence, seeking their welfare); Endeavoring (giving diligence) to keep (guard) the unity (agreement) of the Spirit in the bond (that which binds together as ligaments) of peace (tranquility security safety) (vs. 3).
He then describes for us in verses 4-6 the basis of our unity or the (agreement of the Spirit) which is One Body or Church (Col. 1:18) One Spirit who is Deity not a feeling (Acts 5:3-4), One Lord who is Jesus (Acts 2:36) one faith which comes from the Word (Rom 10:17) and must be contended for (Jude 1:3), one baptism for the remission of our sins (Acts 2:38) and one God and Father to whom we pray (Matt 6:9).
Called by the Gospel (2 Thess. 2:14) to a beautiful Life. Let’s live it.
