It is written in Hebrews 11:6 “For without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh to the Father but by me” (John 14:16). The Apostles by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit confirmed this message in Acts 4:12 with these words “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Clearly, belief and faith are essential if one is going to please God and receive salvation of his Soul. But how do we get this faith? Is it merely a leap in the dark or some type of feeling?
The Scripture answers this question in Romans 10:17, “So then faith (moral conviction, truth) cometh by hearing (the sense of hearing) and hearing (instruction) by the word of God.” Furthermore faith is defined in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance (support) of things hoped for, the evidence (proof) of things not seen.” The Bible states in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof (evidence), for correction, for instruction in righteousness…equipping us unto every good work (vs. 17).
In order to be saved one must read the Scripture, receive its instruction, and obey it. The Bible is our only source of evidence and instruction. It is our proof of what we must do to be saved. We do not receive this proof from men, creeds, government or some personal feeling. Our proof is based upon the evidence of the Scripture. This is the faith by which we know that we are pleasing to God.
