In Hebrews 13:20-21 the scripture says; “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect (complete) in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
The word everlasting in this passage means perpetual and the word covenant means contract or testament. This contract was ratified by the blood of the only begotten Son of God. Therefore, we have a perpetual contract with the God of heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The blessings of this contract are many but in general lets consider that we are members of an eternal kingdom; the Church (Matt 16:18-19, 2 Peter 1:11) wherein is salvation (Col. 1:18, Eph. 5:23), guided by an ever-standing word (Matt 24:35), living the abundant life (John 10:10) in which we are never alone (Heb 13:5) and where we may boldly say “the Lord is my helper” (Heb. 13:6). All of this from a God who cannot lie (Heb 6:18) and who asks us to speak with Him often (1 Thess. 5:17). Can we ask for anything more?
Regardless of our circumstance let’s always remember the words recorded by the Psalmist; “As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a shield to all those who trust in Him” (Psalm 18:30). Yet I trust! (Job 13:15).
