In Proverbs 10:4 the scripture says “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich”. Similar instruction is found in Proverbs 13:4 “The soul of the sluggard desireth and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat”. Finally in Proverbs 19:15 the scripture says “Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger”. From these passages it is clear that if we are to have the potential for a prosperous life we must work and be willing to work as hard as necessary to provide for our own and our fellow man (1 Tim 5:8; Gal. 6:10).
Conversely there are those persons who work continuously and consider themselves too busy for spiritual matters. These hard working brethren may want to consider that God has always chosen busy people to do His work. Elisha was plowing (1 Kings 19:19-21); the disciples were fishing (Mark 1:16-17); David was keeping the sheep (1 Sam. 16:11); Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law (Exodus 3:1). Busy people know how to get things done!
Are we workers and givers? Do we make time for spiritual things? The message of the scripture is clear. Are we living to the standard?
