In Romans 12 the scripture instructs us to present our bodies a living sacrifice (vs1), not to conform to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind (vs2) and not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think (vs 3). Though directly applicable to the miraculous spiritual gifts given to some in the apostolic age, verse 3 has application to Christians today.
Our faith in God manifests itself in our works (James 2:18). Do we boast because of the strength of our faith or by what we think is the greatness of our work? We are warned not to think and act that way being reminded that all members do not have the same office (thing to be done) and that we are all one body in Christ (Rom 12: 4-5). We are never to act out of conceit (Philippians 2:3) nor are we to be envious of others (James 3:13-18).
Each of us had someone in our life; maybe a parent or grandparent (2nd Tim 1:5), faithful spouse (1 Peter 3:1-2) or faithful member (1 Tim 1:2) who helped us develop in Christ. Where do we find these unsung heroes today? They are around us everywhere strengthening the Church both present and future.
How then can we boast? Let’s appreciate each other.
