The word agnostic is defined as “a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God”. Some hold this position because they are unlearned while others claim it as wisdom and sophistication. The Bible directly addresses this issue.
In Romans 1:18-23, the scripture speaks of Gods wrath against all ungodliness (vs 18) and that He has manifested the nature of Himself to the evil doer (vs 19). The scripture further explains that “the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse (indefensible)” (vs 20). In short, the position of agnosticism is indefensible.
The scripture goes on to explain how man descends to the position. They do not glorify God, are not thankful and are vain in their imaginations. They develop a foolish and darkened heart (vs21). “Professing themselves to be wise, they become as fools” (vs 22).
We must always be diligent to know God by His word, His creation and providence. To do otherwise is foolishness. Guard our hearts.
