In Psalms 54, David by inspiration expresses a general truth that God helps those who are faithful to Him. Whether David is expressing appreciation for help in the past or in expectation of help to come the principle remains the same. God cares for His children.
In the world today we as Christians (obedient, baptized believers) need to know and demonstrate in our lives this same confidence. Whether we are looking at God’s providence as viewed by our past blessings (Gn. 50:20) or looking in anticipation of future blessings, we need to remember that God has promised “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5). In that full confidence we need to “boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Heb. 13:6).
The Scripture is filled with “exceeding great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4). We may rest assured that God will do His part. The question is will we do our part? Will we seek and obey Him? Will we believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6). Let us have confidence my brethren!
