In Hebrews 11:1-2 the scripture says; Now faith is the substance (sub-structure, foundation) of things hoped for, the evidence (proof) of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. In 2 Timothy 3:16 the Scripture is said to be profitable for evidence (translated reproof) and in Romans 10:17 we understand that faith comes by the Word of God. Therefore, we know that true faith does not deviate from the evidence or proof of the Scripture. This truth provides the basis for the unity and oneness of the brethren.
Wherever denominationalism or division occurs it is because conclusions are being drawn in the absence of evidence. Even in the Church today we hear varying opinions without the support of evidence. We hear teachers offering “I think”, “I feel” and “let’s imagine” rather than fact. This type of teaching does not strengthen our faith but rather sows the seed of disunity.
If we are to be one as Christ instructed, we need to ever practice the fruit of the Spirit “Proving (testing, examining) what is acceptable to the Lord” (Eph. 5:10); making certain that our faith does not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God (1 Cor. 2:5).
Keep the Faith! (2 Tim. 4:7)
