In Revelation Chapters 20 and 21, we see the overthrow of the devil, the books (scripture) being opened and the world judged “out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works.” This is a sobering record for all those “not found written in the book of life.”  Following this description of The Judgment we are given a glimpse of the beauty and newness of the heavenly city that God has prepared for those who are in the Church.

In this city we see comfort and intimacy for:  “God shall wipe all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Rev 21:4).  The Scripture continues in verse 5 saying “Behold I make all things new.”

In this life, regardless of what evil, challenges or disappointment we face, we can rest assured that there is a time and place, determined by God, where there is relief and “all things are made new.”  God has promised this rest to all those who are in Christ (Eph. 5:23-32).  Will that final day find us in Him?
