Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). In accordance with Isaiah 53:4, as applied in Mathew 8:17, Jesus fulfilled prophesy by healing the sick. In Mathew 9:5-6, Jesus indicated that the purpose of healing was not simply to relieve physical suffering, “But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins”.
In Mathew 1: 21 Mary was told that she would bring forth a Son and that His name would be JESUS “for he shall save his people from their sins” The forgiveness of sins is found only in Jesus. The scripture is clear, there is salvation in no other name under heaven (Acts 4:12).
Beginning with the work of belief (John 6:28-29) and culminating in our submission to baptism into Jesus Christ, our sins are washed away by the water and His blood (Acts 22:16; Revelation 1:5). We are then added to the saved body, the Church (Acts 2:47; Ephesians 5:23). We are in Christ where redemption is found: “In whom (Christ) we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins….” (Ephesians 1:7). Thank God for the forgiveness found in Jesus Christ!
